IANTD Technical Diver Minimize

The IANTD Technical Diver program provides you with the skills and knowledge to ensure you are more than comfortable to perform dives outside of training up to 55m/180 fsw using any combination of air, nitrox and oxygen and for unrestricted decompression.

What do I need to start?

  • IANTD Advanced EANx Diver or IANTD Advanced Recreational Trimix Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  • IANTD Tao of Survival Underwater: Encyclopedia of Technical and Mixed Gas Diving
  • 100 logged dives
  • Be 18 yrs of age
  • What will I do?

You will complete the IANTD Technical Diver theory with your instructor, including content on oxygen exposure tracking for technical & gas switch dives, equipment set up & configuration, physiology & decompression as well as a gas switch decompression dive planning workshop.?All lectures completed with IANTD Technical Diver course specific slides pertaining to the theory in the IANTD Technical Diver Student Kit and materials in the Encyclopedia of Technical and Mixed Gas Diving.

You will then move to our 5.5m indoor heated pool (or a suitable confined water site abroad) where you will demonstrate your ability to perform the skills required to safely conduct decompression, gas switch dives using a twinset and stage cylinder. This session also gives you the perfect opportunity to touch up any skills which may have become rusty since your last course.

You will complete at least four training dives with a minimum of 220 minutes run time. Using air or nitrox as a back gas and using multiple nitrox mixes for staged decompression. You will also demostrate your ability to carry out the skills performed in the pool at depth in open water, while handling the effects of narcosis.

Whats next?
IANTD Technical Divers may continue onto the IANTD Normoxic Trimix diver course, in which you will learn to reduce narcosis by adding helium to your breathing mix and safely dive to 60m/200ft.?If your diving needs require you to go deeper, you can continue on to the IANTD Trimix Diver (a 100m/330ft hypoxic trimix certification, and the end of the "air" certification ladder).
